Brave New Foundation is seeking an experienced Director of Foundation Relations

The mission of Brave New Foundation is to champion social justice issues by using a model of media, education, and grassroots volunteer involvement that inspires, empowers, motivates and teaches civic participation to make a difference.  Our company utilizes new media to push out short videos on a variety of social justice issues.  We have production, distribution, and press in-house.  Campaigns currently include ‘Cuentame’; focusing on Latino cultural and political issues, ‘Rethink Afghanistan’; focusing on ending the war, ‘Power without Petroleum’; focusing on Clean Energy, and ‘16 Deaths Per Day’; focusing on worker rights.  We have had over 50 million views of our work and last year there were 375 major media stories about our work.
The Director of Foundation Relations is responsible for all aspects of raising and tracking support from foundations and government sources for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects. Under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Foundation Relations will research, write, assemble, and report on grants from private foundations, as well as coordinate and participate in the cultivation and stewardship of all foundation prospects and donors. Grant writing is a major aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Writing of all proposals, reports, and other ancillary materials.
  • Existing relationships and a track record with foundations.
  • Research potential funders, target appropriate ask amounts; and prioritize and evaluate prospects for foundation, and government grants.
  • Develop and prioritize projects and proposals.
  • Develop and foster relationships with institutional funders: find personal connections with staff, board, trustees, volunteers, donors that will ensure the attention of institutional funders.
  • Arrange for tours on site; make appointments for executive director with potential funders.
  • Provide stewardship for existing foundation donors, including fulfilling reporting requirements.
  • Manage existing grants by: tracking grants; developing internal reporting systems; writing reports; maintaining excellent historical records; working with staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations.
  • Monitor and manage grants income goal.
  • Help to develop monthly foundation updates, Annual Report, and other communications between organization and foundation donors.
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years experience with grant writing and management.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources and research techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Proven track record with institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Superior research skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of contracts and agreements preferred.
  • Ability to work within a team framework
  • Sense of humor.

CUÉNTAME OUTREACH COORDINATOR


Location: The position is based in either Los Angeles or Washington,
DC with significant travel between both cities.

Launched in early 2010, Cuéntame is the leading interactive online
community where Latinos and the general public connect and engage with
fellow activists, artists, bloggers, public figures, musicians,
journalists and other community members. Through hard-hitting video
exposés, documentary series, provocative interviews shot in studio, on
the streets, or submitted by supporters themselves, Cuéntame informs,
educates and builds a vibrant network of individuals ready and able to
organize on the ground on key social issues that affect us all.

Cuéntame seeks to hire an outreach coordinator to create, manage and
strengthen relationships within and without the Latino community,
specifically focused in building strong liaisons with other
organizations. The organizer will be responsible for coalition
building strategies as well as distribution and engagement
partnerships.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and prior
experience in working with Latino groups and the community at large.
He or she will be experienced in handling a wide range of organizing
tasks, will be detail oriented, and will be a self-starter with the
ability to conduct communications effectively and consistently. This
person must be well-organized, and work well under pressure while
remaining flexible, resourceful, and efficient.


THE OUTREACH COORDINATOR WILL:

  • - Build strong relationships with Latino, grassroots, and social and
    on the ground organizations.
  • Work to effectively distribute Cuéntame campaigns’ video, content
    and actions to individuals, community groups and partners.
  • Build local, regional, national on-the-ground and online
    partnerships to maximize Cuéntame’s reach and impact.
  • Execute a community relations plan focused at positioning Cuéntame as
    a source of Latino oriented content, campaigns and information.
  • Build upon prior knowledge and experience in working with Latino constituents.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong knowledge of local, regional and national Latino groups and
    demographics
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Strong knowledge of social media, video and digital technology
  • Strong interest in Latino politics and civic life
  • Bilingual preferred

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years experience with coalition building and/or political
    campaigns, or 3+ years in an organizing capacity.
  • Available contacts with NGOs, community groups and Latino
    organizations.
  • Must possess extremely strong writing and other communication skills
  • Have significant knowledge of the social and political – online and
    on the ground community, and have the ability to discuss complex
    issues in accessible terms.
