Major Gifts Officer

Brave New Foundation is seeking a dynamic individual to help us grow our major gift program by increasing financial support and involvement from high capacity individual gift prospects. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of individuals with the capacity to make donations of $1,000 and above
  • Implement a strategic plan for the cultivation and solicitation of existing donors
  • Identify, qualify and add new prospects to the major gifts program
  • Engage and support board, volunteer and staff leadership in the fundraising process
  • Work to plan cultivation events
  • Manage the individual donor strategies and reporting
  • Oversee the acknowledgment process
  • Develop and implement Planned Giving program
  • Manage gift processing and data management
  • Represent BNFat outside collaborations and networks
  • Participate in development meetings and other activities as assigned

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary: Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package

Qualifications

  • 2+ years fundraising experience with major donors
  • Must have a minimum of 3+ years development experience with demonstrated success in securing major and planned gifts
  • Networking, analytical, and organizational skills are required
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally and work evenings and weekends as needed

Volunteer at Brave New Films!
We are a small group of passionate people working to make real, tangible, positive change. We're looking for people who have 20 to 60+ hours per week to work on all aspects of our online video campaigns. If you have any spare time this is the place to spend it.
These are unpaid volunteer positions but you will be getting real world, hands on experience and training.
GENERAL HIRING CRITERIA
  • Passion: You care about social justice and human rights.
  • Flexibility: we are a non-profit and have a lot going on. Be ready to wear many hats and switch gears quickly.
  • Can do Attitude: While we do rely on Volunteers to perform routine office work, the primary focus of your work will be specific to your developing skills related to your career interests.
  • Impeccable work ethic: we expect Volunteers to follow the policies of our regular employees.
Minimum Commitment
  • Time: (unless noted in the description) 2 - 3 days / week, 1 - 3 months, depending upon the project. Monday - Friday, 10 am - 7pm (Half days possible)
  • Location: Culver City studios / office (Free parking! Near public transportation!) Unless offsite "virtual" work is appropriate.

Marketing & Distribution Volunteer

You will be exposed to the inner workings of how Brave New Films builds audience for our campaigns and distributes videos and messages. We seek people with availability from 10-30 hours/week availability. College intern credit can be applied. Here are some of the areas the Marketing & Distribution volunteer will assist:
  • Help in a couple week project to confirm our web site pages appear properly in IE and Firefox as we transition our pages
  • Pull data from Youtube and Google Analytics for routine and ad hoc reports. Requires knowledge of Excel.
  • Research non-profits and companies actions on Facebook and Twitter and advise the team of opportunities and best practices
  • Prospecting/research: Find groups and people relevant to our campaigns on Facebook that we can build relationships
  • Be part of our first responder to team to review YouTube and blog messages on our campaign videos and alert us to the conversation

Bilingual Production for Cuentame

Join the fast-paced team at the helm of Brave New Foundation's Cuentame, the exciting, innovative bilingual Facebook project at the cutting edge of the Latino community! Cuentame frames what's going on in culture, history, arts and news, activism and more from our collective past, present and future. Jobs include: Basic online research: organizations, news clips, archival video and photos, logging video footage, transcribing interviews, and translating interviews.

Skills Required

  • Bilingual (Spanish English).
  • VERY Facebook literate.
  • Strong sense of the Latino community's interests, concerns.
  • Excellent written verbal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Positive, can-do, fast-paced team member.
  • Working knowledge of Final Cut Pro a plus.
  • We will train if other skills are needed.

Administrative

A fast-paced film production / distribution nonprofit with its eye on public affairs / politics / civic engagement, Brave New Foundation has immediate opportunities for volunteer interns to help out in various departments including Administrative / Operations and Production.

Skills Required:

  • Basic office skills
  • Internet savvy
  • Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, MS Word)

Post Production

The Post-Production Department seeks career-track interns to assist in digitizing footage, outputting to tape, DVD authoring, basic Final Cut Pro editing, as well as compiling research and presenting reports. Reports to: Lead AE / Post Supervisor

Technical Requirements:

  • Basic hands-on knowledge of Final Cut Pro
  • Familiar with the process of posting videos to YouTube and other online websites
  • Familiar with DVD Studio Pro & Soundtrack Pro
  • Familiar with multiple video formats & codecs
  • Familiar with operating DVR / Tivo decks
  • Recommended: Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop

Other Requirements:

  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Self-starter, proactive, and uses time efficiently
  • Excellent research / report writing skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel; FileMaker is a plus
  • Tech-savvy: able to learn new programs quickly

Documentary Production

Documentary production team is seeking an enthusiastic intern to assist with various aspects of production, including: Online Research (e.g. archival photos, video, etc.) and fact checking, logging footage and transcribing interviews.

Reports to: Producer

Required skills

  • Excellent online research
  • Good writing / typing
  • Good organization
  • Generalist with good disposition
  • Applicants familiar with Final Cut Pro Plus

"Rethink Afghanistan" National Screenings Coordinator

The National Screenings Coordinator will connect and work with volunteers across the country who are organizing local screenings of this hard-hitting documentary in community centers, homes, churches / temples, theatres, political headquarters, schools, offices, etc. It's a great gig for someone who loves the excitement (and details!) of grass roots community organizing and wants to get involved on a cutting-edge national project that's making impact from Congress to living rooms across America. Tasks include tracking Congressional impact.

Commitment

10 hours / week minimum, weekdays (Monday - Friday, 10 am - 7pm), in our Culver City offices / studios. (After initial training, possible to work remotely off-site)

Required Skills

  • Basic computer skills (MS Office: Word, Excel, e-mail, internet research)
  • Smart public relations skills, including phone and written communications

Conversations Guest Concierge

Brave New Conversations is seeking a Los Angeles based volunteer that can be available weekday evenings to help during our the live tapings. We need your help making our very special Conversations guests like Oliver Stone, Jane Fonda, Jackson Browne feel comfortable and helping the producer with a few other production needs before the show gets up and running.

We are looking for someone that has experience working with celebrities and other high-level personalities, thinks fast, has a can do attitude and a flexible schedule. This is a great opportunity for a Los Angeles based volunteer as never you'll have to worrying about making the list for a Conversation ever again!

Documentary Production / Research Intern / Volunteer

Translation Volunteer/Intern

Brave New Foundation is looking for a translation volunteer to join our team! Be a part of Brave New Foundation's vision, as well as our new 'Cuentame' project created for the Latino community, and share in the exciting experience to make a difference on issues that affect us all.

We are looking for someone who is fluently bilingual (Spanish, English) to be able to translate material and be comfortable writing, reading, as well as speaking both languages. We are looking for someone who can intern at least 15 hours a week. Lend your talent to a great organization that is truly making a difference in people's lives.
